Contemporary Class Description:
Hyper-dynamic movement defined by musicality and rhythm allows the body to travel in space with endless possibilities and experience various quality sensations. This class is focused on bringing a heightened awareness to the body and inviting the release of unnecessary muscle tension by using the body's weight to your advantage. The movement's intention is to work with the body's fluidity to surrender fully into the momentum of motion. Guided through specific improvisational prompts, European floor-work and highly physical phrases, this class is created for self-exploration and the enjoyment of moving.

Animal Practice workshop:
The main focus of animal practice is to observe particular movement qualities, textures and explore them through all different planes of motion. Taking inspiration from animals and analyzing how natural momentum allows the body to be dynamic and efficient, calm yet able to attack. Digging into the fundamental side of movement to find where it originates; how to release and soften into the floor and what kind of intensity is needed to travel through space. Laja Field, Salt Lake City, UT native, graduated magna cum laude with a BFA in Dance from the University of Utah in 2012. Upon graduation, Laja relocated to Germany to work with Johannes Wieland at the Staatstheater Kassel, in that season she also had the pleasure of working with guest artist Chris Haring/Liquid Loft in the piece "Lego Love" which was performed again at ImpulsTanz 2013. That following season Laja became a full-time company member with Wieland and relished in the making and performing of pieces such as "Ich Bin Du", "100,000 Superstars" and "Science!Fiction!Now!". Highlights of those years also include working with guest choreographer Stella Zannou and re-staging Hofesh Schechter's "DOG" under the direction of Sita Ostheimer. In 2015, New York City became a new home base, Laja joined VIM VIGOR dance company as a founding member and is currently co-rehearsal director. With the company she has premiered in NYC, the Lobero Theater in Santa Barbara with DANCEworks and toured to Prisma Festival in Panama. She has also enjoyed the opportunity to teach and create with VIM at Lines Ballet Training Program, ODC, San Fransisco Conservatory, University of Michigan, NYU Tisch and Springboard Danse Montréal. This Fall Laja is excited to be premiering new work with partner Martin Durov for BRINE in SLC as well as performing and choreographing a duet presented by DanceNOW at Joe's Pub Festival in NYC.

Martin Durov, teacher, performer was born in the small town in Slovakia. A push from his grandmother started him into ballroom dance at the age of six. Several years later he met a friend that encouraged him to venture into a Slovak Folklore group where he eventually became a soloist. This then led him to study dance at the Conservatory J.L Bella Banska Bystricia (Slovakia) for six years. In school he was a member of the dance company directed by Tomas Nepsinsky that toured pieces to festivals in Slovakia, Belgium and Spain. As a student he also collaborated with Studio Tanca, the professional dance company in Banska Bystricia. In the final year of school Martin took over the role of leader for the school's company and choreographed his own graduation concert. In 2013, Martin graduated with a DiS. art. (certified artist) and went on to join Johannes Wieland's company in Staatstheater Kassel as a full time member for two years.In that time he had the experience of collaborating with many dancers, teachers, and creating pieces by Helge Letonja, re-staged Hofesh Shechter's DOG with the help of rehearsal director Sita Ostheimer and in several pieces by Johannes Wieland totaling over a hundred shows. Martin is a founding member and co-rehearsal director of VIM VIGOR DANCE COMPANY. He has had the opportunity to travel with the company teaching and creating work for Lines Ballet Training Program, University of Michigan and Springboard Danse Montréal as well as performing and creating a new production in Santa Barbara with DanceWORKS and touring to Panama to perform at Prisma Festival. Martin is also an emerging commissioned sound producer.
