Bamboo Straw Care Suggestions

3.4.2021

So you’ve got oneself a bunch of straws, drunk your initial smoothie, posted your pic on Instagram… now you have got a straw to clean! Get more information about bamboo straws

Our straws are made from whole bamboo stalks - practically nothing recompressed! - which makes them quick to clean and retain. A properly made bamboo straw is long-lasting, and cleaning is easy!

All you will need is always to rinse them out below the tap following every day use or shake inside a jar of warm soapy water in the event you like. Every month or so, you are able to boil a pot of vinegar water mix and soak the straws to get a few mins if you'd like a super thorough clean! We use an electric kettle, so we just pour boiling water into a pan or pot and add a spoonful of vinegar for the soak. (Vinegar is optional!)

Simple peasy, we told you so!

Crucial ideas:

1. Often let your bamboo straws dry totally. They dry incredibly swiftly!

2. Dry them flat - not standing up - in order that water will not collect in the bottom.

3. Store your straws in a well-ventilated location, and by no means in air-tight containers or jars.

QandA

How extended can a straw last? Will it degrade if I don't use it for awhile?

Our founder Mel has famously used a set of straws for around three years. Her quite initially two straws - incredibly rough cuts - nevertheless sit proudly on her desk immediately after she first cut them from scrap bamboo in 2013! So bamboo straws will last provided that you take care of them. When Mel is most likely just wanting to see how long she can go with hers, most of our shoppers use their straws for about a year.

Having said that, we advocate you to replace your straw should you notice any important discolouration or modify in taste. Bamboo straws should always taste neutral - not affecting the drink.

Can I taste a "bamboo flavour" when using bamboo straws?

When some people are a lot more sensitive to tastes and flavours, bamboo straws are extremely neutral. There's no extra taste along with the bamboo straw will not affect or alter the flavour of your drink.

Will bamboo straws retain the flavours of the drink?

If you encounter this soon after drinking strong-flavoured drinks like coffee, we advocate scrubbing the inside from the straw with a cleaning brush and soaking in hot water. This will likely remove any flavours that you feel are retained.

We purchased some bamboo straws from someplace else and they have a strange smell. Will boiling assistance?

Regrettably, not all bamboo straws are made equal. We get this question lots. Bamboo straws ought to smell and taste neutral - no further flavours and no peculiar smells. If boiling your straws does not support, then the problem lies with the production process. Some makers claim to work with "natural" processes, however use chemicals in their production process. This really is completely unnecessary by the way! We Under no circumstances use any chemicals, preservatives, pesticides, fungicides. Please be cautious when purchasing all-natural goods and be sure that the maker / shop's values align with yours. We can not vouch for the high quality of straws sold elsewhere.
